Easter 2013

This year we had fun dyeing our Easter eggs.  Ike didn't do much except watch us, but Harlow had a good time with this project.  However, she continues to not enjoy her hands being dirty.   It will interesting to see if Isaac cares about dirt as much as his sister or if he will be the stereotypical boy and like to play in dirt.  Harlow has been pretty much obsessed with her Easter basket and eggs since the previous week we participated in an Easter egg hunt.

I did post a video (on the youtube channel) of me being a psycho during the Easter Egg hunt but didn't get a chance to tell the whole story.  The back story is this:  The little kids were supposed to have their own private Easter egg hunt since they had a separate hunt for the big kids, but this little girl snuck in (where were her parents?) and was basically snatching all the eggs just as Harlow was getting close enough to reach it.  She was a fast little bugger too, when you see the clip and get a look at her basket, you will see how FAST she was putting those eggs away.  Anyway, I still felt bad cause I basically told her to bug off until she finally listened because her basket was OVERFLOWING!  You can tell I feel guilty, I hope I'm not like the parents in Modern Family and get a letter in the mail from her school about being mean to the little kids.

Update on the kids:  Isaac is crawling everywhere.  He is fast and he has calluses on his knees from moving so much on our hard tile floors.  He is sleeping in his woombie still which is something we wish he didn't need-but he does.  Unless we change our mind and decide we like getting up 4,504 times a night to put him back to sleep.  He will get there soon enough, I know it!  He eats 3 times a day and takes 3 naps a day.  He sleeps until about 6-6:30 am right now.  Unless we need him to get up at that time, then he prefers to sleep in so we have to wake him.  He babbles a lot, whines a lot, and really loves his big sissy.  I have a feeling the whining will continue as long as he still is cutting his teeth.  Since he only has one right now, that would be about 2 more years of whining.  Yay (in my sarcastic tone of voice).  He is so much more observant these days.  He loves to climb over to something and pull up to his knees.  I know it won't be long before he is trying to stand up and then walk.  We had to convert him out of his infant seat which means that mom has to now carry him and hold Harlow's hand every time we go anywhere in the car (and her purse, diaper bag, sun glasses and coffee- lol).  Harlow does a fab job of listening to mommy and so far we have been doing great!  Today was the first day.  Ask me about it in a week.  Seriously though, we couldn't wait to get Lo out her infant seat and into her new fancy car seat.  We left Isaac in that seat as long as it remained safe (30 inches long). Talk about how extremely different it is with two kids.  We are in no hurry for Isaac to do anything.  In fact, when I noticed he could navigate up the steps in our house (sunken play room and sunken living room) my first thought was "Oh crap, he can get up the step now" instead of "OMG, look at my baby crawling!!".  Doesn't mean I love him any less, I just am in NO hurry for him to grow up so quickly.  He was fine just being my little guy.

Harlow.  Where does one begin?  The child never ceases to amaze me every day. The things she is saying and doing!  I have spent my whole adult career working with children with language DELAYS.  And though I know what typical is, it still just floors me to hear it, see it, and experience it first hand.  Of course I think she is brilliant!  And so does Dax!  She is trying out new words, putting more words together and then there is a bunch of stuff she is trying to tell me which I have no idea what it means.  That is where we go "Oh really?  Cool!".  She says "cool" by the way.  "Look mama, it's cool!".  She says "that's disgusting" and "mmmm delicious".  She still enjoys her baby stroller, only she straps in the basketball, the toy food, or really anything she can fit inside the seat and walks it around.  Her mission lately is to find the toys Isaac wants and take them away.  We are working on that.  She is pretty sneaky and will wait until I turn away and then snatch away the toy from him.  I suppose it's normal but it's not something that I like at all!  Just recently, I was peaking around the corner and saw her trade a toy with him.  We keep telling her enjoy it while you can cause brother is gonna be a big ole boy and this is probably be the only year of your life that you are bigger than him.  He weights about 22 lbs and Harlow is at about 29 lbs.

I have really been enjoying my time with them lately.  I know that it won't last forever and soon I will be working more.  They are so utterly exhausting these days, but also I wouldn't have it any other way but to be with them as much as possible.  Dax and I just fall into bed each night and we are asleep within a few minutes of the TV turning off.  But then during a calm moment, I look at Harlow and about start to cry because I notice things like her thinning face and tummy, and listen to her talk about being a "big girl" and wonder how this happened so fast.
